Counselor Application
Please read through the entire page before clicking the Counselor Application link at the bottom of the page.
Important Information and Details
1. Applying for this position does not guarantee your being selected.
Each year Campformation may have to turn down GREAT students that want to
serve as counselors.  If you are not selected, please keep in mind that many factors
are considered in our selection process:
We need counselor/s from each church.
We need a balance of males and females.
We need an acceptable ratio of counselors to students from any given church.
We need a balance of veteran counselors to rookie counselors.
We need counselors that are serving for the appropriate reasons.
We need counselors that are balanced and healthy enough to focus on the needs of our campers for an entire week.
We need counselors that are connected and serving in their congregations during the year, etc.
As you can imagine, we would love to have everyone come to camp, but that is simply not possible.

2. What happens after I turn in my application?
Upon completing this application, we will be asking your home church pastor or youth leader to evaluate you for this position.  They will have an opportunity to offer comments on your strengths and limitations, as well as any other important information that we might need to know for our selection process.  If you are not selected, it does not mean that our pastor/youth leader gave you a poor evaluation, it may simply be one of the many other factors that we must consider.

3. When will I know if I am selected?
After the application deadline, The Counselor Selection/Training Team will have a meeting to discuss and select this summer’s counselors.  After we have notified your home church pastor, they will first contact those that were not selected. Once they have notified those not selected, we will notify all counselors that were selected to serve.  We will send a congratulatory email with additional information about the camp, serving, and medical information. You will know if you have been selected no later than March 31.

4. Am I able to attend the MANDATORY counselor training session?
As counselors, you will need to meet at camp the day prior to when the campers arrive at 1pm (time may change).  We meet to cover all of the training elements and prepare for the arrival of campers.  Please know that this day is 100% required.  No exceptions will be made.  Please make sure this works with your schedule before committing to be a counselor.

5. Counselor Covenant
If selected as a counselor, you will be required to agree to the Counselor Covenant. Please review this document below before submitting your application so we know you are aware of these expectations.

Application Deadline: March 1,
Payment
If you are chosen to be a Lutheran Campformation Counselor all payments for Campformation will be handled through your home congregation.  Your congregation may ask you to pay all or a portion of the $400 fee.  If a payment is required, please submit your payment to your pastor, youth director or church office by the deadlines that are specified by your home church. All checks should be made payable to your home church as well.
***Lutheran Campformation will cover the registration costs for Lead Counselors***

Lutheran Campformation Counselor Covenant

As a counselor of Lutheran Campformation, I covenant to other counselors, staff members, and campers that I will:

• Ensure the church I am attending with has completed my background check if over the age of 18
• Complete incident reports as needed and under the advisement of the counselor adult leaders
• Report significant injury or illness of campers or counselors to the nurse and student’s church adult leader
• Participate fully in counselor training
• Diligently and joyfully serve in the counselor role
• Use language at all times that respects the dignity of all humanity
• Seek to include every camper in the programs of Campformation
• Respect the rules set by the counselor team
• Refrain from possession, use or distribution of illicit substances
• (If 18 or older) NOT meet with minors under the age of 18 one-on-one except within plain sight of at least one other person and NOT “friend” or privately message minors via social media under any circumstances
• Regardless of age, refrain from engaging in 1:1 meetings with campers unless in plain sight of at least one other person.  Counselors under 18 should also refrain from directly contacting or privately messaging campers on social media during Campformation week.
•Use cell phones only for camp-related responsibilities or urgent situations except during counselor free time
• Publicly support the decisions made by the counselor team, even if I personally disagree
• Support the programs of Campformation by modeling enthusiasm and active participation in every aspect of Campformation–leading alongside campers, rather than supervising from the sidelines
• Humbly model a life of discipleship by seeking to serve others, give of myself for the sake of the community, and daily participate in worship and Bible study

I understand that failure to honor the above covenant will may result in immediate dismissal from camp.
